Role overview

Our client is a world-renowned healthcare institution in Abu Dhabi and part of a wider group at the forefront of AI and digital transformation globally. The organisation is investing heavily in AI solutions, building proprietary platforms and integrating advanced technology across clinical and operational functions. They are seeking a Legal Counsel with a technology and commercial contracts background to join a small, collaborative legal team and take ownership of the legal workstream around AI, data privacy and technology procurement. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer in private practice looking to make their first move in-house, or an experienced in-house lawyer looking to work in a more future-facing role.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise on the legal and regulatory aspects of AI procurement, deployment and governance across the organisation
  • Support the development and implementation of AI governance frameworks, policies and risk assessment processes
  • Advise on data privacy and data protection matters, with particular focus on GDPR-aligned frameworks and the handling of sensitive healthcare data
  • Draft, review and negotiate technology and commercial contracts including software licensing, SaaS agreements, AI solution agreements and vendor arrangements
  • Sit on the organisation's AI committee, providing legal input on the responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies
  • Advise on TMT-related regulatory and compliance matters across the ADGM and wider UAE frameworks
  • Work cross-functionally with IT, procurement, clinical and operational teams to provide practical, commercially minded legal support
  • Support the wider legal team on general corporate and commercial matters as required

Candidate profile

  • Common law qualified with approximately 4 to 9 years' PQE
  • Technology, TMT or commercial contracts background from private practice or in-house, with genuine interest in AI governance and data privacy
  • Equally suited to lawyers in private practice considering their first in-house move, or experienced in-house counsel looking for a more technology-focused role
  • AI-specific experience is welcomed but not essential for candidates with strong tech-commercial foundations and the willingness to develop expertise quickly
  • Flexible, commercially minded and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving regulatory frameworks
  • Healthcare sector experience is beneficial but not required
  • Middle East experience is preferred but the organisation is open to strong candidates from other markets
  • A collaborative, proactive communicator who can build relationships across legal, technical and clinical stakeholders
  • About Meyssa Legal
